The porting itself was quite easy. Microsoft have put a lot of effort into making it as easy as possible to port from PC to Xbox.
But there are a lot of Xbox specific functionality that you have to develop from scratch. That took a lot longer because it is all new code.

Looks like XBLA War World has been unofficially confirmed as not being released on the 18th of July, if anyone was curious if it was coming this week.

War World confirmed to be coming out in August 2007.

Don't forget before release you should release a screenshot pack, wallpaper pack & new trailer video of the xbox 360 version to Xbox Live.
As you can see here, http://www.majornelson.com/ they release game trailers, screenshot & custom xbox 360 wallpaper packs all the time so that companies can hype their game before release.
Most likely after release you will want to release a demo to get more people interested in your game post-release.
Of course the biggest way to get players interested game is out of your control, as all major gaming publications buy & download your game on release and review it. Expect to see all of the reviews you get here. http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/941825.asp?q=war%20world

It has been confirmed, the Xbox 360 version of War World will be released in 4 days on Wedsday August 29th.. To celebrate the Xbox 360 version of War World I will be hosting a special celebration game of War World on the PC. All are encouraged to join in this celebration as I feel it will mark a large turning point for Third Wave Games. Several team members may be able to join this battle as it will take place for only one hour. It will be morning in Australia, and 10-11 PM Night in the UK.
Following this battle I recommend those with Xbox 360s to wait intill 00:01 PST (12:01 midnight PST) later that night to buy the Xbox 360 version of the game and begin playing online. I am 100% sure there will be at least 8-16 players online with the Xbox 360 version within an hour of the game's release on Wedsday 12:00 am (midnight) PST.

Less then 24 hours intill the Xbox 360 version is released. I hope you enjoy it.
I recommend the first players to buy the game start/join online games, as that is where the game is the most fun. Single player is just practice for the online as far as I am concerned  . I recommend the first game being a Deathmatch. Capture the Flag, Bomb Assault, & Team Deathmatch require getting use to and if the other team doesn't know what they are doing the game can end in less then a minite. Team Deathmatch is normal but new players might shoot allies so again I recommend Deathmatch intill everyone understands how to play.

It seems it was just announced last night that War World will not be coming to Xbox Live Arcade today. It seems it was delayed is because Microsoft is releasing a puzzle game today instead.

Sorry for getting your hopes up, but I was sure it would be this week as Microsoft said it would be released in August. Gusse they lied.
They are in two different genres, someone who is interested in a fast paced fps game like War World would not be interested in a puzzle game, and vice versa.
