War World 1.06.01 Launched!

1.06.01 is a small update that fixes DLL problems and adds a Dedicated Host!

DLL issues: Quite a few people have problems running War World on older versions of Windows because of SHELL32.DLL and PSAPI.DLL. War World 1.06.01 and future versions of War World no longer need the DLL's so it should fix the problem. It does mean that you will have to unlock the game again unfortunately. Just email support@warworld.net if you have lost your code.

Dedicated Host: 1.06.01 also adds the ability to become a Dedicated Host! Again something a lot of people have requested. Here is how it works: You simply host a game (as per normal) and then minimize the window (hold down the Windows button and press 'M'). When War World is minimized your mech disappears but you are still hosting the game. Other people can join the game and if you maximize the window again then you are back in the game and can participate.

War World doesn't use much CPU time when minimized so you can run a Dedicated Host while doing other things at the same time. War World also uses less bandwidth when minimized.

Awsome news, I will be leaving my server on even when I am not home now.

When I am done waiting in line from filecloud I will upload it to www.filefront.com which I have come to see as the best free no registration required to download host. They have about 10 servers hosting every file to pick from.

Also one question about the Dedicated Host, if I press alt+tab (and not windows key+m) on Windows XP will my mech still disappear and still be hosting?

War World has the best netcode and performance statistics I have ever seen in a game. Seeing as my computer and network can play the worst netcode and worst performance FPS game on the market (Planetside, which is accually MMOFPS with 400 players/map) without problems, this game at most takes 5% of my computers CPU and I have no problems running it in the background.

15 servers to pick from each with a 5 minite or less line, better then filecloud's 1 server with a 20 minite line.

One could also choose to register it with a bit-torrent tracker and let users download it that way - would be a nice alternative to waiting

Thanks for the great support with the game.
I was 100% pleased with the first version of the game, in my view it was totally worth the money I paid (and I only played SP so far, I have to give MP a try one of these days).

You can be sure if you ever release paying expansions you have my money.

It looks like the dedicated server no longer works. I used the Windows Key + M on the newest version of war world, although it minimizes it won't make my mech disappear even after I killed it twice it still respawned even though I was in server mode alt tabbed.
